Perhaps the comment of the character going to the T.Matin rally should have been depicted as saying ANYTHING OTHER THAN "Where did THAT GUN GET mALCOLM x?" AS such a question POLITICALLY MISREPRESENTS Malcolm's MESSAGE, the right of people facing systemic violence to defend themselves by any means necessary-a message shared by Gloria Richardson, Rev.Fred Shuttlesworth, Robert K. Williams, and others.The character with the gun does NO in ANY WAY represent Malcolm X. Malcolm DID NOT die, as a result of "bad karma"-that is,having reaped violence that he sowed. Thatidea is a perception that is promoted in part by the "ruling class", who to this day fears the anti-capitalist,anti-imperialist message of Malcolm, as it continues to fear the Cuban people and their revolutionary gov't, (which Malcolm openly defended and pointed to as an example for people in the U.S to follow), AND,as it began to fear Martin L. King's stances against U.S wars abroad and growing class consciousness (stances Malcolm had already taken). It is this force-the ruling class in this country, along with viloence mongers within the Nation of Islam, tthe time (in the case of Malcolm)that is responsible of BOTH of their deaths,arguably, along with others. REad Malcolm's speeches-particularly from books containing the speeches of the last 11 months of his life (ie., MALCOLM X TALKS TO YOUNG PEOPLE-see www.pathfinderpress.com).In short, the character promoting the rally is representing BOTH Malcolm and Martin-not just one. I definately apprecite the purpose of the video.I have been and continue to be socially active around fights for justice for T.Martin and other struggles. However, in making the important point of participation in civc or civil activity to demand justice for T. Martin and others, it is unnecessary -and in fact disarming to us as fighters, to distort important lessons from past fighters, such as both Malcolm and Martin-lessons that we need so much today.
