I have never evicted one of my tenants, and hope I never have to, but they cannot live in my apartment rent-free. I have come close once, but instead of evicting the young brother, I called an attorney and had him offer dude a "buy-out" instead. I could have had the marshals toss him and his things out on the curb, but it just was not me. Instead I offered to help him move with my pickup truck and offered him some money to help him get another place. I know, I am a big softy. Of course the brother was sexy as hell, and I could not have him homeless. Lol.

I think it is really hard for young people to realize how important it is to have some savings, in case you lose your job, or your benefits, or something unplanned happens that demands priority use of your income unexpectedly.

Six months emergency money is what I recommend. Add up your bills for six months and squirrel away that much money, in an emergency fund, just to be fairly sure this never happens to you. I keep my emergency money in savings bonds online, so I never spend the money by accident, which happens way too easily, if I keep it in a regular bank account, and I have an ATM card lying around.

Some of my clients have been homeless, and some of them had kids. I just cannot imagine how that must feel as a parent. It is hard enough to imagine just being homeless oneself, never mind having responsibility for kids and have it happen.

But in DC, there are separate homeless shelters for men, for women and for families. I know because I have dropped friends off and volunteered at various locations around the city. That is what I hate about capitalism. The folks living carefree in multi-million dollar mansions in NW, while kids live in homeless shelters in SE at risk of hunger. I think that is why I feel much more drawn to socialism. I think we as a people have to personally commit to take care of those less fortunate, which translates to the rich having a little bit less, so that none of us are hungry or freeze when it is cold outside. What really makes poverty hard for the rich to see, and easy for the poor be left to deal with it themselves, is how poverty pools, and wealth pools, insulated from one another, so those living in poverty are surrounded by others in the same boat, while the rich folk living in riches, are doing their best to keep up with the Joneses; new car every year, bigger house, more lavish vacations, better paying job, never seeing the other side of town.

Now! Now! Brown Hornet. Violence is seldom the appropriate response, and rarely the best answer.
