My ex was raped as a kid and in turn was infected with HIV by his uncle. Words can't express how deeply he hates that he's gay due to the example of his Uncle. Had to let him go, I'm not the punching bag for anyone's misery especially when I'm attempting to help.

That is awful. On all sides.
Sorry you had to endure the trauma that he's still grappling with. Hopefully, by the time you left him, he was better off than how you found him.

Nope.

he was worse after you were done with him? Sad

I wouldn't say he was worse. He goes 0 to 100 and 100 to zero at the drop of a dime. In a 24 hour period he can go from wanting a life with you to wanting to kill himself once you get there to finding God again and not knowing who you are once you talk him out of the worst case scenario to begging for forgiveness later on.

Prior experience and observation tell he is likely someone who experiences hallucinations induced by the HIV medications especially when combined with alcohol. Attripla is notorious for that. I'd like to think he's in the same place I found him.

By his own words "If we all could get everything we wanted, we'd already be dead". Good riddance.

WELP.

He had a good point.

The response here to Zeke Thomas being raped has been sitting with me for a little while and I'm honestly very disturbed with what I've read here. Like I actually had an intense, visceral reaction at

Code:
you can't rape the willing

and

Code:
what 27 year old man gets raped?

Like ... Neutral

A year ago in February, Josh “Zeke” Thomas, the 28-year-old musician son of NBA legend Isiah Thomas, was raped, in his own apartment, by a man he met on Grindr. The experience came as close as any in his in many ways pretty charmed life to destroying him. “No one ever talks about this,” he says. “Especially men — gay men. It’s like, is it real, did it happen, is it believable?”

“We had chatted on Grindr, and I had invited him to come by my studio since he was a singer,” he says. “Nothing against Grindr. I’ve met great people on Grindr, I’ve had sex with great people on Grindr. I can’t blame an app. But you don’t know shit about people you meet on it.” In any case, they’d not hooked up right away. “He seemed like a great guy. We hung out at the recording studio. And then a couple of days later he said, let’s go to Boys Town,” the gayborhood in Chicago, “for a drink.”

He felt safe there: He’d had DJ gigs there. He knew bartenders. But by the time he realized something was wrong it was too late. “All I remember is … getting in the cab. I know that I got drugged. I knew probably the moment that it happened because something didn’t taste right. But I didn’t think about it. I just didn’t think about it.” The next thing he knew it was the next morning. “It was literally like with Bill Cosby. When those women were like: ‘I woke up and he was fixing me breakfast or whatever.’” He pauses for a while, and then continues, quietly. “I woke up and he was handing me a glass of water and saying, ‘That was great let’s hang out again.’” He noticed that his dog was shut outside on his balcony, barking. And the guy leaves.

“My ass was destroyed. Destroyed. I’m bleeding,” Thomas recalls. “And I’m just like — terrified. I can’t move. I didn’t move from my apartment for two days. I didn’t move. I didn’t talk to anybody. I froze.” When he went to find the guy on Grindr, he either had blocked him or removed himself from the app.

You all can read the rest of the article here. It actually humanizes and contextualizes his experience, unlike this bullshit abc clickbait article that was posted in this shitty threadby @cai3030 Rolling Eyes

But to recap what @neon_slayer and I were discussing in that thread ... This silencing and trivializing over male rape amongst gays is fascinating.

i suspect some of the people who are making off-beat comments are victims themselves and trying to deflect their pain. that's the only way that I can try and rationalize these responses. still surprised at the sheer dismissiveness, especially within the queer community.

the weird part is how they're all genuinely like "how could this happen?" like it's some sort of indecipherable futuristic text written in a moon language, i didn't know you had needed a phd in physics to understand how one man can overpower another. maybe they need graphs? a chart? diagrams? powerpoint?

Thanks for digging that up. The information in the article you found wasn't presented in the original interview but it does help explain what happened. HOWEVER, the questions I asked were still appropriate and justified. Isn't that why you searched to find out the answer? I'm am certain there are a lot of people out there who were confused as well as to how to react to his interview and who had the exact same questions. We didn't go to him asking about the incident, he made it a media event. When you invite the public in, you gotta answer questions. Sometimes you gotta answer questions even when you don't invite the public in.

Now, I get the Bill Cosby context to all of this but given that we are still living in the context of the Bill Cosby allegations, my main point still has NOT been answered. When someone rapes you like he states, you need to file criminal charges with the police. Do you think Zeke was the first and last victim that dude raped? I seriously doubt it. If he wants to be a symbol and an example, he has a bit more work to do. I hope that organization is encouraging him to follow through with charges. Just like Cosby's victims, just like those women at Fox News, you can't stop bad people and prevent further victims if you don't follow through.

There are aspects of that interview that didn't make sense...and still don't as I've pointed out. Maybe Zeke incorrectly thinks everyone already knows about the details so more explanation wasn't necessary. In any case I don't think I'm out of line for asking a good question that many others have to be thinking about too. And maybe you think the posting was just clickbait but I feel the story was interesting and real issues were raised.

I thought that it was very inappropriate to ask:

Code:
what 27 year old man gets raped?

It was a very mindless question and I assumed better from you, even in the absence of this more detailed account from Zeke.

Again, I disagree. 27 year old men are rarely rape victims unless there is an extraordinary circumstance. Zeke's case is no different as the facts that you brought show. Do you really think others didn't think the same?

I think you undercover enjoy being morally outraged just a bit.

So you didn't think for once instance that a 27 year old man could've been physically overpowered to being raped by another man, let alone drugged?

If not, that's even more concerning.

I'm not one to carry out any moral crusades, as I've notoriously argued in these forums that many who are HIV positive are more moved by social impetus than moral obligation when it comes to choosing whether or not to disclose their status to partners; concluding that HIV criminalization laws as they currently stand are completely ineffective in protecting the general public.

So please, spare me the morally righteous title. dat ain't me.

No I don't. A man of small stature could get overpowered and raped but that is still a rare occurrence.

I love lots of things about you Cosber but you do get morally outraged. I'm not saying I'm perfect either but let's keep it real.

I'd expect all moral-having-persons to become outraged when certain subject matter hits close to home. That makes me human, no?

Dismissing rape in the instance of a man being physically overpowered as a rare occurrence is fascinating.

According, to the interview you provided Zeke was drugged and raped not physically overpowered and raped. He had no ability to defend himself. I got consistent with the facts and you probably need to do the same. You're still arguing an old point that ignores the information you provided. If you want to provide something that shows that the rape of 27-year old men or young men in general by being physically overpowered is anything other than a rare occurrence I'd be happy to reconsider.

I think moral outrage is appropriate when someone has done something immoral or evil. You're acting as if the comments made about Zeke Thomas represent evil or immorality when at best they are really just insensitive to your point of view and skeptical/questioning of Zeke's interview. I think people have a right to be skeptical and ask questions when they think a story doesn't make sense.

I think its fair for you to challenge insensitivity and give your view for other people to think about. But, I don't think its fair to call people wrong/evil/immoral for questioning something. I still have serious questions about Zeke not reporting the crime and because of that I don't think he is the best person to put out there for rape awareness. I believe you suggested that we were engaging in silencing the victim but I don't think anyone questioned his right to speak out.

Sir ... at this point, it really doesn't matter if he was drugged or physically overpowered. The fact of the matter is that he was a 27 year old man who was raped. This happens in prisons, bars and within queer relationships across the country all of the time. For you to be so ignorant to question how that could've happened speaks volumes to your naivety. It doesn't take much for a grown, adult man to be raped.

Code:
You're acting as if the comments made about Zeke Thomas represent evil or immorality when at best they are really just insensitive to your point of view and skeptical/questioning of Zeke's interview.

This extends further than "evilness" and morality or sensitivity. The comments here point to gross, unacceptable ignorance, at best; the comments here point to highly susceptible reason to believe that forum members may have participated in rape themselves without actually having the words to describe it, at worse.

Code:
But, I don't think its fair to call people wrong/evil/immoral for questioning something.

It is abhorrent that you would even question his manhood, integrity, age and whether he gave consent by asking "what 27 year old man gets raped?" That is absolutely fueling rape culture.

Code:
I believe you suggested that we were engaging in silencing the victim but I don't think anyone questioned his right to speak out.

In the same breath, you are questioning him being "the best person to put out there for rape awareness." Sir? What is that supposed to mean? Do you even understand rape culture? Do you understand the psychology behind rape victimhood?

It seems to me that you're just generating new accusations/allegations/outrage regarding the comments in that thread with absolutely no basis in fact. None of my comments are even related to the accusations you just launched. You're even now accusing commenters of having committed rape as the justification for why they had questions. That is emotional raging to which I can't really relate. I'm just into logic and facts. I think I should move on because I'm not interested in engaging in this discussion to cause you deep anger and upset. I think the exchange of opinions and views we've had is an interesting and good thing. But, I'm going to shut up and let others continue the discussion.

Nope. I didn't accuse anyone of rape. I said:

are you denying that you said this in your thread?:

Do you not understand the concept of consent?

Yes....You're changing the subject (which is that Gay Porn feeds this with it's rape mimicry.) That's fine.

gay porn doesn't feed anything but fetish fantasies.
there is a hard line when it comes to consensual sex. period.

Dismissive.....

i truly do not give a fuck, especially as it pertains to rape.

you have a good day, Heather.

You know something else? If I call right now, and tried to report that this happened to me, they would not want to take a report. They'd reluctantly do it, but they will not treat this like they do with male on female rape. Not in my area of the County. West Hollywood, and some parts of Los Angeles they will. If you live in a Straight area with a lot of married people (especially Black) they aren't gunna react to this like they do male on female rape. Part of the reason for that is bottoms running around begin to have their ass destroyed. Like it, or not. That's a factor.

so assumed promiscuity is why we should dismiss rape.

Thanks, Heather.

I bathe with SheaMoisture Black Soap for sensitive skin, psoriasis and eczema and also wash my face with it. I have eczema on my head and elbows and it helps so much. Haven't had a break out in years. I clean my head with it after shaving. I'm looking for another product now that SheaMoisture has gone batshit crazy over the last week with their management.

When I was in Cairo, I stopped by an oil shop to pick up lettuce oil and it's really good for breakouts and eczema. I use aloe vera on my face and head after shaving.

I see a dermatologist and she prescribes me a sulfur cleanse that I use on my head and face. If I'm on the road, I use cetaphil to wash my face before bed. Once a week, I do a noczema mask. To moisturize my face, I use a little bit of aveeno because my skin is oily. I make a lemon juice and brown sugar scrub for my lips that I apply every three days.

To moisturize my body, I use raw shea butter and jojoba oil. I soak my feet in jojoba every other day.

I'll leave out any questions I have about his account of the events, because forcing someone to do anything against their will is wrong, whatever the circumstances.

My issue with Zeke is that he's trying to have it both ways. He wants to be lauded as being courageous for shining a light for adult male rape victims, but he is letting the perpetrator of a violent crime, that he knows and can identify, get away Scott free. Why is that? That makes no sense to me, therefore it calls into question his recollection of events. He gets to be a martyr and a victim, without even attempting to hold the perpetrator accountable. He can continue with his budding music career and continue to drug and rape grown men, unscathed. I can't be the only one who has a problem with that...

there are lots of rape victims who don't press charges against their accusers because they feel guilty for their own rapes; "letting themselves" become vulnerable to others to become taken advantage of.

i wouldn't nail Zeke or other victims to the cross for that. you wouldn't understand unless you were a victim of rape yourself.

I will give the benefit of the doubt to one's who have experienced being raped. But I would still encourage an adult male (and I know this may not be pc, but there is a difference between an adult male and a child or a female) that would open up about being raped at 27 a year ago, to stand up to the person who did it. If it happens, not revealing his rapist doesn't make it any less horrific. But letting him get away with it, in the face of the scores of children, women and even male rape victims, who don't have resources or protection of a prominent parent, is still very questionable to me.

don't question it.

i appreciate him prompting conversation about it, if anything, especially amongst Black fags. clearly this is something that needed to be discussed.

Very disgusted by the commentary I saw from Black gays.

How do y'all deal w/ homophobic family? Ignore them? Engage them? Where does "respect" start and end?

I've been lucky to not have crossed that bridge yet. And I am out to all of my immediate family, uncles, aunt and grandparents, too.

I partially think that my educational and professional success has given my family pause in being (outrightly) homophobic towards me. I think that if I was a bummy fag and wasn't doing shit with my life, things would be very different.

But in the back of my head, I am holding on to the idea that they truly love me and want me to be happy, regardless of me being gay.

Your family must have really cut deep with their own expressions of homophobia when you were a child. Neutral

I grew up in with southern Pentecostal parents. It's not the "modern family", they're socially & religious conservatives.

My mother would tell you that God destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah, and that all homos are going to hell. It just that plain & simple with them. So when all our time on earth is done with my family, I'm hoping that I have an ally in God, & if I get to heaven, that would make all their religious zealotry moot, since I'm there with God having my back.

Is cowardly of me, yes of course. But I can only go by my own instincts, and they tell me nobody has to know. And I rationalize to myself, it's better for them & me, even tho open gay people will tell me the opposite.

It just makes me wanna ask God, why did u do this to certain people of society, and such a small minority where we can be ostracized?

God did not make you a sodomite. Where do you get that from?

So do men that live homosexual lifestyles so you should tell him he'll never get to heaven to confess to his mama and daddy he was a punk on earth cause he'll never make it in!

Wherein you provided a service or did a function to receive money?
I was like 10 and I helped my mom and her friend with their cleaning business, I'd take the trash out and vacuum the houses they cleaned for like 50 bucks a week
It was separate from allowance.
Later on my first 'job' with an established company was a brand rep at hollister and Abercrombie kids. I was 17-19

it's been a good long while since i've read something on the internet period, let alone bgc, that disturbed me and that thread did it. i know the cretins of bgc are exceptionally vapid and unrealistically cynical but i honestly didn't expect so much callousness and indifference, especially since most of us are either a victim of sexual abuse or know someone who was.

i'm gonna chalk it up to everybody's balls being grapefruit sized when they log onto the web cuz few if any of them would talk like that to the victim's face, they're just bill o'reillys saying shocking things for shock's sake from behind the safety of their keyboards. Rolling Eyes

it has to be ... because if this is the general sentiment within the queer community, then it begs the question as to how many men here are technically rapists ... it begs the question as to how many men here have technically been raped and have been shamed and robbed of the language and motive to make sense of it, let alone pursue legal action.
